That Actually Works
GoalFinn exists because of a simple observation: most technology consulting gets it backward.
Our Story
Twenty-five years ago, Kevin Armstrong was a technology leader watching enterprises spend millions on "transformation" initiatives that failed to transform anything. The pattern was always the same—start with the technology, chase industry trends, follow vendor roadmaps, hope for business results. It rarely worked.
So he started doing the opposite. Start with the business outcome. Work backward to the technology. Apply first principles instead of copying what worked for someone else. Design programs so one investment creates cascading value across the organization—multiplier effects, not diminishing returns.
For two decades, Kevin refined this approach across industries and company sizes. He mentored leaders in the methodology. He proved, again and again, that outcome-first beats tool-first. That strategic alignment turns $1 invested into $10 of realized value. That technology should serve business results, never the other way around.
GoalFinn was founded to bring that methodology—now called the Catalyst Framework—to enterprises that are tired of transformation theater and ready for transformation that actually works.
The Catalyst Framework
Our core methodology—a disciplined approach to enterprise transformation that's been refined over 25 years of hands-on work.
Here's what makes it different:
Outcome-First Design
We start with the business result you need—revenue growth, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, competitive advantage—and work backward. Technology decisions come last, after we understand what actually needs to happen.
First Principles Thinking
We break problems down to fundamental truths instead of following industry patterns or vendor pitches. We question assumptions. We ask "why" until we hit bedrock. Most transformation fails because it copies what other companies did without understanding whether it applies to you.
Multiplier Effects
Every program is designed so one investment delivers many benefits. Strategic alignment means you're not just solving today's problem—you're building capabilities, improving team velocity, creating reusable patterns, strengthening organizational muscle. When designed well, $1 invested generates $10 in realized value.
Multi-Layer Alignment
This is where most programs fail. Strategy set at the top rarely survives contact with the organizational layers that actually have to execute it. We map these layers, identify alignment opportunities across them, and build champions and owners at every level. The goal: convert top-down mandates into distributed momentum by reducing risk for the line managers and process owners who make change real.
Technology as Tool
We're deeply technical. We understand what's possible and what's vendor theater. But technology is always subordinate to outcomes. It exists to serve your business, your teams, and your customers. It's never the reason for being.
Stakeholder Clarity
Transformation dies in confusion. Strong communication, aligned incentives, clear roles, and easy onboarding paths turn strategy into reality. The best technical plan fails if people don't understand it, don't believe in it, or don't know their part in making it happen.
The process unfolds in five phases: Outcome Definition, First Principles Analysis, Strategic Design, Execution Planning, and Multiplier Measurement. Each phase builds on the last. Each creates artifacts and alignment that multiplies the value of what comes next.
Leadership
Kevin Armstrong
Founder & Principal Consultant
Kevin Armstrong is the founder of GoalFinn and the architect of the Catalyst Framework.
With more than 25 years of enterprise technology leadership, Kevin has led transformation initiatives across industries—financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, SaaS. He's built and scaled teams, designed enterprise architectures, negotiated vendor partnerships, and mentored dozens of technology leaders.
But his defining expertise isn't technical—it's strategic. Kevin understands how to start with business outcomes and work backward to the technology that serves them. How to apply first principles thinking to cut through industry noise and vendor narratives. How to design programs that create multiplier effects, where one strategic investment cascades value across the organization.
He's spent decades proving that outcome-first beats tool-first. That strategic alignment delivers disproportionate returns. That technology is a means, never an end.
Kevin founded GoalFinn to teach this methodology to enterprises ready to stop chasing trends and start achieving results.
What Makes Us Different
What makes our approach different from typical consulting engagements.
We've been doing this for 25 years—before it was trendy.
Outcome-first transformation isn't a new concept we picked up from a conference. It's a methodology refined across decades of enterprise work. We've seen technology eras come and go. The fundamentals don't change.
We start with your business, not our tools.
We're not selling a specific technology, platform, or vendor relationship. We're designing strategy based on what you need to achieve. If that means Salesforce, great. If it means building custom, fine. If it means doing less and focusing resources, even better. The answer comes from your outcomes, not our incentives.
We design for multiplier effects, not project lists.
Most consulting engagements treat initiatives as isolated. We map cascades—how one investment enables others, how strategic sequencing creates momentum, where the leverage points are. We're optimizing for total value, not billable hours.
We build your capability, not dependency.
The goal of every engagement is to make you better at this—better at strategic thinking, first principles analysis, designing for outcomes. We teach the Catalyst Framework. We mentor leaders. We document what we do so you can repeat it. Success means you don't need us anymore.
